FULL ECOSYSTEM OF APPLICATIONS

The Avido ® chipset range provide a full ecosystem for all levels of connectivity and equipment, from main operator network equipment through to customer devices, each usable as stand-alone application/system or as part of a seamlessly integrated full network solution: -

Avido 7.0: Combined Network Switch & BWA Systems

The Avido ® platform enables data, voice and multimedia applications over an all IP platform in a mobile wireless environment (based on the IEEE 802.16e standard). Unlike other solutions on the market, the company develops and owns both the baseband and the Avido ® chipset. As such, it is an ideal core/backbone network switching solution for network operators wishing to deliver premium, cost-effective Internet access and voice services to residential and business customers.

Avido 4.0: Base Station Systems/Equipment

The Avido ® is also supports Point-to-Multipoint Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) network Base Station systems, providing continuous anywhere-anytime fixed, portable and mobile broadband availability with an unparalleled combination of performance, ease of deployment and cost-effectiveness. This includes its suitability for both LTE/5G overlay networks as well as integral or stand-alone networks.

Avido 2.0: Interconnection Switching

The platform can also provide complete interconnection solutions between diverse fixed and mobile telephony and internet networks/traffic streams. With disparate networks based on different technologies, interconnection is an increasing problem for telecoms providers and ISPs. The Avido ® ecosystem not only facilitates this convergence, but also provides evolutionary migration path to an all IP network in a wireless environment.

Avido 3.0: Fixed Broadband Customer Connection CPE

Known as the ‘last mile’, the connection between the home or office and the service provider is one of the most valuable parts of any network (amounting to ‘ownership’ of the customer), subject to the all important costs of establishing and maintaining the connection. Broadband Wireless has long been anticipated as the successor to limited DSL and cable technologies for providing fixed broadband customer connectivity. It potentially offers all the functionality of wired broadband, but with significantly reduced costs and faster roll-out together with reduced on-going upkeep costs and ability to reach where DSL cannot and/or is prohibitively expensive. Unfortunately, the wireless technologies currently in use (primarily WiFi) fail to deliver this potential due to combination of poor performance; poor signal quality (particularly line-of-sight); and, critically, cost (including small cell sizes). By contrast, Avido’s broadband wireless access resolves these issues – providing subscribers with high data rates over non-LOS fading channels with wireline reliability. The Avido ® platform supports a wide range of fixed broadband connection equipment (CPE’s) with a combination of superior performance, competitive cost and, critically, ready consumer installation (a considerable problem for many/most alternative CPEs). This includes supporting dual configurations (e.g. combined 5G and Wifi) as well as single standard equipment.

Avido 5.0: Portable Wireless Broadband PC MCIA

Portable Wireless Broadband is further important application – covering both the customer devices and related network equipment (see above). Almost every laptop PC sold today has a WiFi chip built in or is WiFi compatible, despite WiFi in fact being sub-broadband and has considerable deficiencies, including poor signal quality, fading and the cells being generally restricted to 50-100m indoors and 200-300m outdoors. The next generation of wireless broadband (5G and LTE), however, provides true broadband connectivity in cells of several kilometres (up to 50km in rural areas).

The Avido ® platform again supports a wide range of mobile wireless broadband applications with again a combination of superior performance, competitive cost and ease of installation/integration. This includes both PC MCIA applications (i.e. for building into the likes of laptops) and USB applications (i.e. consumer plug-in) as well as supporting dual configurations (e.g. combined 5G and Wifi).

Avido 6.0: Mobile Wireless Broadband USB

The next generation of broadband wireless include provisions for full mobility and roaming (cell handover) and is a natural successor to 4G mobile technology (hence 5G), again taking in both customer and network equipment (see above).

The Avido ® enables a range of mobile equipment with the customary combination of performance, competitive cost and ease of installation. While this potentially includes applications for both 5G and LTE, the company has focused first on the 5G applications.

Backhaul Equipment/Solutions Market

Backhaul is the connection from the access network or the cell site to the core/backbone network or the switching centre, providing crucial connectivity. Since the fixed 5G standard (802-12-2004) release, wireless broadband will increasingly be used as a backhaul solution for both new networks and, upgrading existing networks, comparing favorably with both the, most prevalent, E1, wired backhaul and the alternative proprietary microwave backhaul solutions.

Backhaul equipment/solutions are again fully supported by Avido ® platform, offering a compelling combination of high bandwidth, long range connectivity and cost-effectiveness. In conjunction with the ecosystem’s interconnection functionality (as above), this includes being particularly suitable where there are bottlenecks or interoperability issues from multiple applications or standards being used across the network.

Private Wireless Broadband

Finally, wireless broadband also lends itself to supporting private networks for the public sector, large corporations and military, with significant cost and deployment advantages over existing technologies.

For the Avido ® platform it is merely a question of providing an appropriate encryption interface and might bring to bear many of the platform’s wider capabilities (for instance, tandem public-private systems or seamless fixed and mobile networks).
